How Millennials Are Disrupting Furniture

A recent article in the New York Times explores what it's like to be a young professional living in an apartment in the suburbs. The article looks at the impact that millennials have on the furniture we use in our homes. A lot of the furniture in the article is bought for kids' rooms. It mentions that millennials have a wide variety of furniture and that they don't like the same types of furniture.

You will likely hear someone say that a lot of furniture is bought for kids’ rooms and kids’ clothes. It's not that all furniture is purchased for kids’ clothes because it’s not as comfortable or for kids’ rooms. It’s that if your kids have a lot of clothes, you’re going to need them for a lot of different reasons.

Our article is about millennials, and they, like any generation, want to buy modern and trendy furniture.

But they don’t want to pay the same amount of money for the same type of furniture for their own room as a lot of other generations do. They want to buy something that’s stylish but also functional. Of course, that’s just what you’ll get from a lot of people.

Millennials’ furniture shopping habits may be different from what you’d expect. A 2016 survey of a new generation of young adults, conducted by the Pew Research Center, found that two-thirds of those surveyed do not own a sofa. That’s a lot of furniture! We did some research to find out just how this affects people.

The furniture we are seeing in our homes and offices is still pretty much the same. Most Millennials are buying furniture for their own rooms (and that's probably what they are doing), but not quite as much as their parents were. And most Millennials are not buying furniture that’s “modern” as much as they are buying things that feel good to them. They don’t see furniture as just an object of decoration or of comfort. They see it as functional and cool.

The first time I tried to break into furniture stores to find new furniture,

I was so overwhelmed by the number of sofas and chairs and sofas in a store that I just couldn’t fathom what I was seeing. So I just went straight to the online stores. And I walked in to find the same sofas, chairs, and beds. And the same chairs and beds. And the same sofas and beds.

I’m guessing some of that is because sofas and chairs were originally designed for indoor use. But the more I think about it, it’s really a lot to do with the way furniture has evolved in the last five or so years. For the last 15-20 years, furniture has been designed for outdoor use.

I went to the local furniture store for sale last month, and it’s so good for a place that used to be out of business so it’s still good for a place that’s out of business now. It’s a great place for all the people who like to own furniture, so it’s just fantastic to be able to spend time with and see what’s going on in the living room.
